How Do I Check the Status of My TaxAct Return?

Tax season is still in full swing, and many people are wondering when they will get their tax refunds. TaxAct is one of many software packages available to individuals and businesses to prepare and file annual tax returns. If you have used TaxAct to file your taxes, you may be wondering what happens after you submit your forms. How do you check the status of your TaxAct return? You can get more information on TaxAct software by calling user support here, and below are ways to track your return through TaxAct.

Note About TaxAct

TaxAct is one of the free federal income tax filing options offered through the IRS to certain individual taxpayers. For those who earned more than the maximum income threshold for free filing, TaxAct has a paid software option available. State tax returns can also be filed with TaxAct. However, state filing carries a small fee. Once you have filed your taxes, you can track the status of the claim.

Tracking Your TaxAct Return Status

To track the status of your tax return through TaxAct, follow these steps:

  1. Open TaxAct in your browser.
  2. Navigate to the TaxAct Electronic Filing Status page.
  3. Select the type of return you are inquiring about (federal return or state).
  4. Enter your last name, social security number and zip code in the spaces provided.
  5. Select "Check E-file Status" to get an update on your TaxAct return.

Troubleshooting

If you follow the steps above and cannot get a return status, check the following to make sure the information was entered correctly:

  1. Did you enter the correct social security number?
  2. Was your last name entered correctly?
  3. What zipcode was used when you initially filed your taxes?
  4. Was electronic filing successfully completed when you first filed your taxes?
  5. Did you get to the print return page, but failed to file electronically?

Other Methods to Checking Return Status

When filing electronically with TaxAct, you will receive an email confirming your return was successfully filed. This email usually comes to your inbox within 48 hours of submitting your return showing TaxAct has accepted your claim. You will then receive a follow-up email when the IRS accepts or rejects your return.

You can also use the "Where's My Refund" link on the official IRS website to see where your return is in the filing process.

Filing your taxes can be stressful, but TaxAct works to remove some stress by allowing you to track your submitted return. For more information or assistance, contact TaxAct customer support here.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for TaxAct Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
