Contacting this number really isn't going to be a lot of help unless you already have this card. That's because the customer service representatives for this number are trained to provide assistance to existing customers, not new ones. If you're trying to become a new customer, you're not going to get a lot of help from talking to anyone with this number.
There are some good parts to calling this number, notably the amount of time it takes to reach a representative. The system isn't always good at recognizing commands, but it does appear to push you through to a representative after guessing wrong on three occasions. It also seems to count asking for which language you want as part of these three guesses, as I had one call where I waited twice to press English and was then put through on the first misunderstanding by the system.
When I was put through, the representative confirmed that I had reached the Goldman Sachs Business Cards phone line and asked for my name. I provided it to her and asked what were the benefits of the card in question, as I was considering getting the card for my business. I told her that I was a small business owner, but I wasn't sure if the card was a good fit for me and wanted to get information.
The representative said that she honestly didn't know because she and other representatives didn't get much information about the program and its benefits. She explained that she didn't have that information in front of her, but she would take a look to see if she could pull it up. I told her that would be fine, and I asked her if I would be more likely to find the information on their website.
She said that would likely be my better bet, as she wasn't able to find much in the way of information. What she did find told me that I could gain points for all spending with this card and would get more points for any spending I did at a GM location, such as for an oil change or for maintenance. I asked her if this card was meant for GM owners specifically, and she confirmed that it was.
She said that many people used it to help pay for maintenance, and even if I wasn't a GM customer, I could still use points to get other rewards. With no other questions, I thanked her for her time and ended the call.
Overall, I thought the representative seemed genuinely concerned about trying to help, but wasn't really given the tools needed to help anyone outside of the program. If you're not already a card holder, you're not going be able to get enough information to decide if this card is worth it for you.
If I was a cardholder, I would likely use this phone number for assistance, but it doesn't do you any good without holding the card.
